Selection of Established Scales

In addition to ratings on these items, the scales in Table 3 were completed by the interviewer or patient as appropriate; the listing refers to the individual scales applied to consecutive patients. The numbers completing the self-rating scales














are specified; those with incomplete scale scores had in each case no more than two items missing and were given the average score achieved by all the remaining patients for these items. Patients with more than two items missing on a specific scale were excluded from any further analysis on that scale. There was no selection process, and consecutive random aggregates only of patients were included or excluded. The BDI and SCL-90-R were included in the second and final quarter of the study, respectively.
